ABOUT LUCIA

Lucia Fraser is a multidisciplinary artist specialising in painting and ceramics. Finding inspiration from the natural world she creates work that is gestural and expressive with a distinct colour palette. Although each piece has a starting point, inspired by a distant memory or a place in time, anything is possible within the composition during the process of painting. The works can therefore evolve to become entirely abstract through a deliberate release of conscious control. Evocative in their abstract simplicity, her paintings not meant as direct representations of place, more remembered interpretations of an atmosphere or emotion.

Lucia’s approach to ceramics is heavily influenced by her painting practice. She creates ‘flat’ forms that act as three dimensional surfaces for her glazing technique. Her recognisable mark making transfers from canvas to ceramic in a fluid painterly style.

Lucia studied BA (Hons) Fine Art at the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, graduating in 2005. She has since exhibited her work in galleries across the UK and has collaborated with iconic British design brands such as Hobbs and Heal’s Furniture.
